| UK ¡V Grapping the
Opportunity |
The UK was the first to have its horse racing
and gambling industries hit by the rapid
growth of Internet gaming. Its current
direction is, however, to become the centre
of e-commerce and has taken on Internet
gaming as an opportunity to expand further.
Some critics expected that since the market
in Western Europe and Asian countries are
growing so rapidly, the US market will soon
shrink from current level to around 40% of
the total market.
There are regulations in some states in the
USA that allow Internet gaming for horse
racing industry but not for the casino
industry. Compare this with the UK where a
lot of the Internet gaming activity is based.
This is because the UK government
embraces the opportunity more than anyone
else, as well as gaming at large. There have
been recommendations to the government on
how to open up gaming throughout the UK.
This means a majority of those restrictions
would go away and the gaming market
would open up. Interesting enough, there
has been conflict of interest and internal
strife between the British Horse racing
Board and the bookmaker license holders,
many of them on the Internet now. This is >>
