Among the developed horse racing countries, Japan, USA, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Australia, France, South Korea recorded the largest horse racing turnover. Hong Kong's turnover is the third largest. Hong Kong is the exception, in that other countries have the breeding industry behind horse racing. Hong Kong has more than 1,000 racing horses, imported mainly from Australia, Great Britain, and USA.

While the horse racing industry in other countries has a good balance between racing and breeding, the Hong Kong horse racing industry has to rely totally on betting revenue.
